WAGNER RESOLUTION RECOGNIZES MEMBERS OF CANCER CONTROL CONSORTIUM

HARRISBURG, January 27, 2004 - With unanimous consent the Senate adopted a resolution introduced by Senator Jack Wagner recognizing the Cancer Control Consortium for its fine work in devising Pennsylvania's first Comprehensive Cancer Control Plan.

"The goal of this plan is to reduce the burden of cancer for all citizens of Pennsylvania," said Wagner. In 2001, the Pennsylvania Department of Health initiated a partnership of advocacy groups, community organizations, insurers, academic organizations and other members of the health care community, along with the Pennsylvania Division of the American Cancer Society to create the Pennsylvania Cancer Control Consortium (PAC3).

"The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has challenged each state to eliminate suffering and death due to cancer by year 2015," said Wagner. In its efforts to reduce the impact of cancer on the citizens of Pennsylvania, the Consortium's plan will identify priority issues with respect to cancer across the Commonwealth.
